Ofcom reports that SIM-Only contracts are more popular
Author: adminThere was a 20 percent increase in the number of mobile phone users to switch to a SIM-only deal with because of the recession, causing a significant decrease in the month ahead contracts. Yes, the global economic crisis has resulted in monthly contracts, which have always been very expensive, are cheaper by their respective mobile phone operators, to attract a broad customer base. Ofcom said that since September 2008, 1 in 5 keeps users existing mobile equipment to lower monthly rates and greater flexibility in the contract. This equates to 20 per cent of the population. However, many consumers take on 2 year contract monthly rate reduction combined with a mobile phone. In fact, 1 in 8 new mobile phone contracts is happening now for a 2 year contract. The number of mobile phone subscriptions exceeds greatly the number of British citizens - now there are 77 million subscriptions, representing an increase since 2008 of 3 million. SIM-only contracts can be as short as 1 month for some mobile operators and Ofcom's research proves this, showing that 25 per cent of new mobile phone contracts were for only 30 days to the first quarter of 2009. Orange, the mobile operator has introduced a monthly fee of 5 pounds for a 3 year contract, which marks the longest in the industry. With SIM only deals aside, it is also the monthly contract the lowest rates available today.
