How could our attention be maintained by another new police/detective show? First, Richard Castle is played by the talented Nathan Fillion. Is it possible this is the person who portrayed Dr. Pomattor in Adrienne Shelley’s Waitress? It’s also possible you recognize Nathan from the internet musical ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along’ by Joss Whedon, the creator of the cult sci-fi series ‘Firefly’, also starring Fillion. Like the great fictional detectives of the past, Castle uses a mix of comedy, romance, and whodunit to craft an engaging story arc that will keep you watching. Women who are fans of the genre will find a lot to admire as well. The lead detective, Kate Beckett, is played by the actress Stana Katic. She can be seen in cameos for a variety of programs but she now headlines a show of her own - deservedly I might add. Add to that Castle’s daughter, Alexis (Molly C. Quinn), and his mother, Martha Heath (Susan Sullivan) and a police force filled with well-portrayed supporting actors. But the best interest-riveting force is the writing. Andrew W. Marlowe, Barry Schindel, David Grae, and Charles Murray did a great job with the pilot. After the first show was apprehensive that the writers could keep the intermix of comedy and complex crime stories going for an entire season. I have been wrong. Driving the show is the tension filled drama between the two lead characters, Castle and Beckett. Much to her disdain, Castle is given permission to follow Beckett. Castle redeems himself with Beckett even though he often gets in the way, speaks out of turn and manages to be annoying. Beckett can’t help but grow to care about Castle as she learns to value his insights and appreciate the risks he takes to crack cases. He also endears himself to Beckett’s colleagues with small gestures like purchasing a top-notch coffeemaker for their use. Castle’s mom and daughter are both full of contrasting elements. His mother is immature, takes advantage, and bears watching. The young girl is wiser than her age would suggest, supportive of her father, limiting the power of her grandma. Castle is a dedicated dad who frets without reason (so far) for Alexis. As Castle’s daughter Alexis, Molly C. Quinn has the best acting abilities on the program. Given her youth she should have a long career. Castle is easily one of my favorite shows. I hope it will run for a long time. I’m especially excited about upcoming shows because I just ordered the Comcast HD Triple Play. I have come to believe that HDTV is the best way to view all my favorite television shows like Castle, and I look forward to the increased sound and picture quality. I discovered an unbeatable deal online that lets me bundle all three digital services offered by Comcast, Digital Cable, Digital Phone, and High Speed Internet, into a low monthly bill. Beyond Digital Cable with HD, I can’t wait to try out my new broadband internet service from Comcast. The ancient DSL connection I had was so unpredictable and slow I couldn’t watch any videos online or listen to great new music. Now, this will no longer be a problem. Now I don’t have to deal with minute by minute charges, due to Comcast Digital Voice. I can call local and long distance nationwide to who ever I like for one low bill. Don’t wait! Check out the current deals available to customers who can purchase Comcast services. Look into them today before these special promos come to an end.

Caernarfon Castle is to be found in North Wales, and is a leftover of the time when the English and the Welsh fought bitterly around seven hundred and thirty years ago. King Edward I was the fearsome King who was responsible for bringing the welsh to heel, and at that time built so many castles in this part of Wales that it is believed that no other country on this earth has as many castles per square mile. It all began with the Roman garrisons, Norman strongholds, and Anglo Saxon Forts, and now means that there are over 300 castles to explore, from what amounts to little more than a pile of stones to the huge medieval constructions. North Wales saw Edwards I build a series of castles numbering more than a dozen as he attempted to bring Wales under his control. Caernarfon castle is located on the Menai Strait, built on a site known since the Roman occupation as the gateway to Snowdonia and the heartlands of Wales, so a really strategic position. There is little doubt that Caernarfon was the greatest of Edward’s castles, and his official residence in North Wales. It was also the seat of his government. To this day the octagonal thirteenth century towers dominate the town below. Of great significance was the fact that King Edward’s son who was to become in his turn King Edward II was born here in 1284, and then given the title Prince of Wales in 1301. Whether this had the desired effect of placating the warrior like Welsh isn’t known!! It began an English tradition which continues to the present day, and the current Prince of Wales amid great pomp and ceremony became the Prince of Wales at an investiture at Caernarfon Castle in 1969. A less distinguished future monarch who was to abdicate in 1936 was the future Edward VIII was invested at the castle in 1911. Caernarfon castle is an impressive place by any standards, and one way to see it is from the water, where it gives you a real idea of how an attack from the sea all these years ago would have been completely unthinkable. Caernarfon Castle is some eight miles south west of Bangor, and it is true to say, that it is difficult to miss. If you are going to visit Caernarfon Castle then you will need somewhere to stay, and you will be very fortunate because some of the best farmhouse hospitality is to be found in this very attractive part of North Wales. You ought to check out Ty’n Rhos and its 70 acre farmstead, as it is one of the loveliest country hotels in Wales. It is a family run inn and is famed for the quality of its kitchen, and would be a great base for anyone wishing to explore this part of the welsh countryside. There are many excellent bed and breakfasts, so there is no need to spend a fortune when enjoying your visit to Caernarfon Castle and its surrounds.

With a number of historical sites to visit nearby, the campsites in the Vendée are great for exploring the beautiful surroundings of this region of western France. A popular attraction to visit while camping in the Vendée is the Castle at Tiffauges, one of several medieval castles you can find here. The Castle at Tiffauges is about an hour’s drive inland from the quality campsites in the Vendée that line the picturesque coastline. As you explore the 400-year-old fortified hilltop castle, you may hear two scary stories about a man who lived in the castle. Both stories make perfect tales to tell as night falls while camping in the Vendée. The Story of Gilles de Rais Gilles de Rais committed many gruesome crimes in the Castle at Tiffauges. He was a fearsome serial killer, who lived there during the 15th Century. At first, Gilles de Rais lived an outwardly honourable life. He was a knight and a deeply religious man who lived at the castle with his wealthy wife, Catherine de Thouars. Gilles was also a platonic lover of the heroine Joan of Arc, so when she was captured and burnt at the stake it affected him deeply. Rais left his wife, lost his faith in God and started to dabble in sorcery to support himself financially. Soon sorcerers from all over Europe came to visit him and he turned a wing of the castle into a laboratory in the hope of perfecting the dark art of alchemy. His life unravelled further when he fell under the influence of a sorcerer who persuaded him to commit the worst sins imaginable. Gilles was lead to believe that if he committed these sins he would be empowered to turn metal into gold. Crazed with gold lust, de Rais went on a killing spree which, it is thought, claimed the lives of 800 young boys. The unhappy life of Gilles de Rais came to an end when he was sentenced to death by a French court. The Story of Bluebeard Some people claim that Bluebeard and Gilles de Rais were the same person, and others will claim that Bluebeard never even existed. Whatever you believe, the story of Bluebeard is sure to send you screaming from the castle and hurrying back to the peaceful surroundings of your campsite in the Vendée. Legend has it that many years ago a man with a blue beard used to walk the corridors of the Castle at Tiffauges. He was a horrible, ugly man, who nonetheless married several times. His wives always seemed to disappear mysteriously. All the girls in the village would try to avoid him, scared he would want to marry again. Bluebeard’s next wife was a young woman who would discover his awful secret. Bluebeard entrusted his new wife with a key to the castle’s forbidden room, warning her never to use it. One fateful day, the young woman and her sister gave into temptation and opened the door of a dark room at the top of the castle. They saw that the room was covered with blood and the bodies of all Bluebeard’s missing wives were hanging from the ceiling. The girls were alarmed when Bluebeard came back to the castle to discover his dark secret exposed. Just as he was about to deliver a fatal blow to his wife, her brothers came in and killed him. Those in the know will tell you that the story of Bluebeard was in fact a fictional fairy tale, written by Charles Perrault and based on the true story of Gilles de Rais. Nonetheless, if you are camping in the Vendée, the Castle at Tiffauges makes an interesting day out, where you can discover the settings for these stories first hand. The castle offers beautiful views and a chance to see the medieval enactments and weaponry. It’s an attraction that will give you plenty to talk about when you get back to your Vendée campsite.

The location of the Cotswolds is a fantastic one for many reasons. It is probably best known for its rolling countryside, which offers different views around every corner. But the Cotswolds is about far more than just the countryside. When you visit on a UK holiday or weekend break you will find there are surprises awaiting you around every corner. And among those surprises there are some majestic castles standing firm on the landscape. Here are just three of the ones you could visit while you are staying in weekend hotels or holiday cottages. Berkeley Castle Berkeley Castle is to the south west of Cheltenham, so it is really on the outskirts of the main part of the Cotswolds. However don’t let this put you off paying a visit. It is well worth the journey, no matter where in the Cotswolds you might be staying. This castle is huge and it is over nine hundred years old, so it has seen a lot of changes and visitors over the centuries. It is a Norman fortress and if you see a picture of it from the air you will get a better idea of just how big it is. It sits in an estate of six thousand acres, so it has impressive grounds as well. Any visit should really have a day dedicated to it, so make sure you do just that. Broughton Castle This castle is in Banbury, which is a short distance to the north east of Chipping Norton, another famous location in the Cotswolds. Broughton Castle is arguably one of the most attractive castles in England. It has the benefit of a huge moat as well, which was formed from three separate streams. This was in fact why the site was originally selected for Broughton Castle way back in 1300. You can visit many areas of the castle, including the attractive gardens, the chapel and the Great Hall. Be sure to allocate enough time to enjoy everything that Broughton Castle has to offer. Sudeley Castle and Gardens Sudeley Castle is located to the north east of Cheltenham, so you aren’t too far from it, no matter where your Cotswold cottage is situated. It should form part of every UK holiday to the area, as it has links which stretch back hundreds of years into history. If you love hearing about Henry VIII and his wives, then you will certainly want to pay a visit. The last of his six wives, Catherine Parr, is actually buried here. But Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII himself also visited the castle centuries ago, so you can see there is a lot of Royal history tied up here. These are perhaps the three most important and most stunning of the castles you can visit in this general area. The Cotswolds has definite and distinct roots way back into history - and these castles are the ideal way of finding out how far back those roots go.

The Castles of Kyrenia

Author: admin

The beautiful town of Kyrenia is popular amongst tourists on holidays in Northern Cyprus. The region is known not only for its beauty as a holiday destination, but also for its rich history. Kyrenia has a number of unique and beautiful castles, dating back centuries and housing some fascinating historical artefacts. Kyrenia Castle This fascinating castle is definitely worthy of a visit whilst on holiday in Northern Cyprus. Kyrenia Castle dates back to the 7th century, when it is thought to have been built by the Byzantines. However, under the subsequent Roman rule, the site was built into a city, and it was later rebuilt into Girne Castle, which still stands today. This castle was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, housing a 12th century chapel, dating back to the Romans. The castle lies at the east end of Kyrenia’s old harbour, surrounded by a moat which was filled with water before the 14th century. Kyrenia is a beautiful and historical city to visit whilst on Northern Cyprus holidays, and the castle makes for hours of historical sightseeing. Within the castle walls you will also find the Shipwreck Museum, where you can browse through the remains of a 4th century Greek merchant ship. If you are brave enough to venture into the castle’s depths, you can explore the dungeons and weapon rooms housed below. Buffavento Castle Whilst in Kyrenia on a Northern Cyprus holiday, you will have the opportunity to view the Buffavento Castle. Situated in the middle of the Kyrenia mountain range, this castle dates back to the 11th century, believed to have been built by the Byzantines, and then improved by the 14th century Lusignans. This castle forms part of an important trio, along with its neighbouring castles, St Hilarion and Kantara. St Hilarion Castle If you are seeking some peace and tranquillity on your holiday in Northern Cyprus, visiting St Hilarion Castle will do just the trick. Originally established as a monastery, there is a distinctly spiritual atmosphere to this castle, and the combination of the spiritual ambience and the beautiful scenic setting allow for a tranquil experience. It was then turned into a castle by the Byzantines and renovated by the Lisignans. Sadly, parts of the castle were lost under Venetian rule during the 15th century, but what still remains is fascinating. Kantara Castle The third in the trio of castles is Kantara Castle. Also situated in the Kyrenia Mountains, you can visit this castle whilst hiking on your Northern Cyprus holiday. Dating back to the 10th century, this castle was first established as a lookout point over the Karpass Peninsula and Mesaoria Plain. When Richard I invaded Cyprus in 1179, the ruler of the Byzantines, Isaac Comnenus, used the castle as his place of refuge during the invasion. A later fascinating function of the castle was its use as a hunting lodge. The nobility could use the castle to hunt mountain goats with trained leopards. Situated in this idyllic setting, you can enjoy the views as you wander these old hunting grounds whilst on holiday in Northern Cyprus.

Your home is your castle. It contains your most valuable possessions, not the least of which is your family. It is an unfortunate reality that criminals will exploit any gaps in your home protection system in order to invade your private domain. This can result in the loss of cash, jewelry, electronics and your sense of security. Or, even worse, it can result in the loss of a life; yours or a loved one’s.

Citizens are understandably becoming more and more aware of the dangers that face them, and are looking for solutions. Home owners need complete security plans that will protect their residence and everything in it, both while they are at home and while they are away. Home protection is a top priority.

The first step in home protection is to complete a comprehensive evaluation of your home’s “weak zones’. These are the aspects of your home that leave it open to attacks. By walking around the outside of your home, and looking carefully with “thief eyes” you should be able to identify any exploitable areas.

For example, windows provide an easy avenue to enter your home, especially when they are on ground level. You may also notice ways in which higher windows can be accessed either via trees or other buildings on your property.

After completing a survey of your property, it’s time to obtain the self defense and home protection tools that will keep you, your family, and your cherished belongings safe. Here are some easily overlooked weak points that most homes offer to criminals, and the effective tools that will deter them.

Many of us believe that the lock on our door will be enough to keep a burglar out; if we feel that we need extra security we simply add more locks. What we do not consider is how easy conventional locks are to pick. By adding more you may slow the burglar down a bit, but not enough to deter them.

The solution is to install an unpickable lock. Advancements in technology have essentially made keys obsolete; it’s time for you to get up to date with a fingerprint door lock. These locks will only allow you and your family to unlock the doors which means no keys to lose and no locks to pick.

Within your home you likely keep valuable such as jewelry, cash, and important documents. Protect your assets by keeping them safely secured in a safe. There are several models of safes on the market. The most advanced systems combine sturdy construction with fingerprint recognition access.

When searching for a merchant that carries home protection equipment it is important that you seek one who is reputable and knowledgeable. A great place to look is at bljs self defense. com . This company offers a wide variety of items, including fingerprint locks and safes, and provides consumers with education on self defense. In addition to the online resources, BLJ’s Enterprises supplies its customers with personal attention to help ensure that they develop a home protection strategy that is right for them.
